Burglary in Wynnewood, Attempted Burglary in Haverford, Police Say

Lower Merion police reported the following incidents to news media at a Monday briefing. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, they do not indicate guilt or a conviction.

Theft from vehicle: A Coach mini purse worth $132, a pair of leather knee high boots worth $150, a $30 prepaid credit card and a Vera Bradley overnight bag were stolen from a locked car in the Waldron Mercy Academy parking lot on Jan. 21, police said. The complainant told police that she had parked her car in the parking lot and went out to her car at 12:20 p.m. to see her passenger side window broken out. No one was seen in the area, police said.

Retail theft:  Eight pairs of designer sunglasses were stolen from Sunglasses Hut in Suburban Square on Jan. 23, at a total loss of $2,344.98, police said. At 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 23, three women and two men entered the store and began looking around; after they exited, an employee noticed that several pairs of Gucci, Prada and Burberry sunglasses were missing from a display case, according to the report.

Burglary attempt: A resident on the 500 block of Hillbrook Rd. in Haverford contacted police on Jan. 26 to report an attempted burglary. Glass panes on the rear door of the residence had been broken, and there were footprints in the snow, indicating that someone had come and left, according to the police report. It does not appear entry was gained.

Underage drinking: An 18-year-old California woman and a 19-year-old man from Bethlehem, PA were cited for underage drinking at 1:13 a.m. Jan. 27, according to the police report. Police had pulled over the car, driven by the 18-year-old female, because she was driving with no headlights on. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer smelled an odor of alcohol, but the driver displayed no signs of being impaired, police said. She registered .22 on a preliminary breath test, but later registered .007 on a blood alcohol content test, and so will not be charged for driving under the influence, police said.
 
Theft: An Apple iPhone 5, valued at $500, was stolen from the St. Joseph’s University gym between 4:45 and 5 pm. on Jan. 26, police said.

DUI: A 48-year-old Ardmore man was cited for driving under the influence on Jan. 23 at 5:39 p.m., according to police. The man was traveling at a high rate of speed on Woodside Avenue toward Montgomery Avenue, at which point an officer began following the vehicle and eventually stopped it at Holland Avenue, police said. The officer smelled an alcoholic beverage inside the car, and the driver had red glassy eyes and a blank stare, police said. A blood alcohol content test registered .154, and the man was charged with driving with a suspended license and driving under the influence, according to the report.

Burglary: An Apple MacBook Pro, a woman’s gold Omega watch, a purple amethyst bracelet, a black iPod and $20 in loose change were stolen from a Wynnewood home on Jan. 25, police said. Sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 5:45 p.m., an unlocked home on the 500 block of Moreno Rd. in Wynnewood was entered and the items stolen, police said.
