2 Arrested After Pointing Gun at Cabbie, Police Say

According to Lower Merion Police, a dog tracked down the defendants.

A man and a woman were arrested in Merion Station over the weekend after Lower Merion Police say they pointed a handgun at a cab driver during an argument.

Laquan McCall, 22, faces six felony charges relating to the incident—including robbery, aggravated assault, and firearms charges—while his female companion, 20, faces charges that have not yet been posted.

On May 11 sometime before 9:34 p.m., Lower Merion police said that McCall and his co-defendant entered a taxi at 30th Street Station in Philadelphia and asked to be taken to Upper Darby. All parties agreed to take City Avenue, by way of Interstate 76, to the destination, but while the cab was on City Avenue in Bala Cynwyd, McCall and the other defendant began arguing with the driver about the fare, police said. When the cabbie told the pair that he would call police if they didn't calm down, police said McCall pulled out a gun, pointed it at the driver, and told him to continue on his way.

According to police, McCall and his co-defendant then got out of the taxi on the Lower Merion side of the intersection of City Avenue and Merion and began walking away.

The cab driver called police and relayed this story to them, and officers from Lower Merion and Philadelphia arrived on the scene. According to police, the officers were advised that the man, still armed with the gun, was seen running north on City Avenue.

Lower Merion police said they used a dog to track McCall and the woman, and that the animal led police to the pair on the unit block of Blancoyd Road in Merion Station. Police said the cab driver came to the scene and identified both of them, and McCall and his co-defendant were arrested and arraigned.
