Philadelphia Eagles Fumble Away Victory

The Philadelphia Eagles fall on a last-second field goal to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 16-14.

It's tough to lose games like this.

The mighty Pittsburgh Steelers never lose at Heinz Field and the Philadelphia Eagles almost pulled one out, scoring a last fourth-quarter drive. But it wasn't enough as the Steelers marched down the field and kicked a field goal to win 16-14.

"Listen, they got us," Coach Andy Reid said to wrap up his press conference.

The Birds had this game in the beginning, but Quarterback Michael Vick fumbled the ball away as he tried to reach the goal line on a run. (Vick would later cough up another fumble -- his league-leading tally continues.)

The game went back and forth with punts and penalties and the Steelers took a 10-0 lead at halftime.

Big Ben Roethlisberger worked his magic as he usually does. Big Ben isn't always pretty, but he gets the job done and finds a way to win.

He did that again.

The Birds had a long drive -- 17 plays, 79 yards and eight minutes -- with Shady McCoy leading the way before tight end Brett Celek caught a touchdown pass.

What was also impressive was that Coach Andy Reid went for it twice on fourth down and converted both attempts.

The Birds looked like they were on their way to a fourth, fourth-quarter game-winning drive.

But there was still enough time for Big Ben to put together a drive that the Eagles defense, which didn't sack Big Ben once, couldn't stop.

Running Back Rashard Mendenhall returned to Pittsburgh's lineup and worked in the trenches, gaining 81 yards.

This was a tough one to lose.

If Vick didn't turn over the ball, maybe the Birds start off with enough momentum to dominate the game.

Reid had some trouble -- as always -- managing timeouts. But what are you gonna do.

The Steelers are a team that is solid. Even though they are now only 2-2, the Steelers are always playoff bound. The Birds used to be and, now at 3-2, the Birds will face off against the Detroit Lions.

In the end, though, the Steelers didn't beat the Eagles. The Birds beat themselves.

Sometimes the better team will lose games. Sunday in Pittsburgh was one of these games.

most of the Time it si not the coaches fault but in this case, Reed just can't cut it. And you are right, Vick was never a good Quaterback, Just Lucky.

Where's all the the Eagles fans that last week said 3-1 we are super bowl bound? The 3 "wins" have been by 4 POINTS TOTAL. Week 1 won by 1 point, Week 2 won by 1 point, Week 3 lost by 21 points, Week 4 Won by 2 points, Week 5 lost by 2 points. The eagles suck and will always, when was the last championship 52 years ago? Should have never built that new stadium for lurie, and philadephia would have won a superbowl by now with a expansion team.

To even imagine the eagles are a great team is beyond preposterous; they should easily be 0-5 for OBVIOUS reasons. They were saved in each "win" by some VERY fortunate circumstance not related to being more talented than the opponent. Everybody that dons eagles garb states that they actually LOVE to a team that represents them by losing the most important game of EVERY season for a lot longer than most of their "fans" have been alive. The rehiring of Reid each season following failure to achieve a superbowl win is stupifying - "hey, you muff up every last game of a year, let's have you back again!" The hiring of vick at all was a joke - a flashy player who NEVER had results; who now is well exposed as a cliche spouting player oblivious to his own record setting turnover production. Keep letting him be the starter next week. "I gotta do a better job." How many times with the broken record? Eagle fans are fans of something well beneath excellence apparently.

My biggest nightmare is a repeeat of last year, Jeffrey Lurie will make up some stupid resaon to keep Andy Reid.

Art, it is more like a continuation of last years nightmare. I defended Reid for years now and can simply not do it any longer. He has gotta go, and the team rebuilt in numerous areas. They have become unwatchable.
