Kids Eat Local: Delancey Street Bagels

Know what to expect when you go out to eat with the kids.

Getting time to eat out is hard enough and sometimes bringing the kids is just part of the plan. So before you go, be sure to know if is the right pick for you and the kids.

Restaurant: Delancey Street Bagels

Is there a kids’ menu? Not an extensive one, but Delancey Street offers a variety of mini muffins and pastries, that are the perfect size for little hands, and even a kids cheese sandwich that’s “smaller for smaller stomachs.”

Are there healthy options? Yes, there are lots of healthier options on the menu including low-carb and low-fat choices. Spread on some of the preserves or some vegetable cream cheese spread and these picks scream healthy. There are also egg and egg whites as well as tuna and chicken salads. But if health is what you’re looking for, keep the kids away from the gourmet candy counter.

How does the restaurant deal with food allergies? Be sure to tell the counter person about any known food allergies your child may have. If your child’s allergies are severe, be vigilant.

Is the restaurant so quiet that any childish outburst will draw attention or is there enough noise that a small cry is likely to go unnoticed? Delancey Street Bagels has a casual café setting and is pretty welcoming to all ages, though I’m sure the morning commuters who are there for a quick coffee or a bagel could do without a screaming infant.

Is there enough room for a stroller? No.

Is there a baby changing station in the restroom? Yes. The restroom is also so clean and fresh, that you may come out of it smelling nicer than when you went in.
