Wynnewood's Andy Musser, Phillies Broadcaster, Passes at 74
Services in Bryn Mawr are scheduled for Jan. 31.
Former Phillies broadcaster Andy Musser, who for many years called games alongside the late Harry Kalas and Richie Ashburn, died Sunday at his home in Wynnewood, the Inquirer reports.
Mr. Musser—considered the consummate pro in the booth during his long career—worked a couple of Super Bowls, was a broadcaster for the 76ers’ NBA championship team in 1967 (helmed by Wilt Chamberlain), and was a play-by-play man for the Phillies from 1976 to 2001. He also did work for the Eagles and and Villanova Basketball, the Associated Press noted.
“Mr. Musser's most memorable call came in the penultimate game of the regular season in 1980, when the Phillies beat the Expos in Montreal to clinch the National League East Division on a home run by [Mike] Schmidt,” recalled Inquirer sportswriter Don McKee.

Phillies announcer Chris Wheeler, who worked with Musser, Kalas and Ashburn, told McKee, “There's a great replay when Mike hits the home run off Stan Bahnsen and Andy goes, ‘He buried it!’ ... I remember thinking to myself [of Musser], ‘He nailed it.’ I was so happy for him. Those are the kinds of things a lot of broadcasters don’t rehearse. It happens, and you either hit it or you don’t. And he hit it. He hit it right on the nose.”
A memorial service for Mr. Musser is scheduled for Jan. 31 (11 a.m.) at . In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church Foundation.
