Lankenau Hospital Volunteer Dies at 96

Mrs. Ruth L. Nelson, age 96, formerly of Wayne and Penn Valley, PA, passed away this weekend.

Mrs. Ruth L. Nelson, age 96, of Harleysville, PA, formerly of Wayne and Penn Valley, PA, passed away on September 27, 2012.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Thomas N. and Rose Levis (nee Hohl).   Ruth was a graduate of West Philadelphia High School. She was employed as a Bank Teller with First Pennsylvania Bank on the Main Line.

Ruth was a member of the Eastern Star.   She volunteered at Lankenau Hospital and Paoli Memorial Hospital and the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair.   She was a member of the Penn Valley Women's Club and a knitter and a member of the Plentiful Sowers Knitting Group at St. David's Episcopal Church. She had a great spirit and caring way and will be missed.

She is survived by her daughters Ruth "Penny" (E. Michael) Preston and Deborah N. (Albert F.) Martin, her grandchildren Christopher, Brian (Heather) and David (Melissa) Preston and Thomas N. and Kathryn E. Brown. She was predeceased by her husband James H. Nelson with whom she shared 47 years of marriage.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family Thursday, October 4, at 9:30-10:50 a.m. at St. David's Episcopal Church, 763 Valley Forge Road, Wayne, PA followed by her Funeral Service at 11 a.m.  Interment will follow in Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, King of Prussia.
