Get Creative at Main Line School Night

Beautiful images and evocative words have the power to transport us beyond our everyday lives to new and exciting places. An afternoon at an art museum or a restful weekend curled up with a good book can feel like a mini-vacation. Equally as rejuvenating is the process of creating our own art. Whether putting pen to paper or capturing images with a camera excites you, Main Line School Night has a multitude of classes to get your creativity flowing this spring.

Do you love getting lost in a good mystery, piecing clues together to try to figure out who-done-it before you turn the last page? Maybe you’ve been thinking about writing your own? In Writing Murder Mysteries, Thrillers and Suspense, you can take a plunge into the hair-raising, dark side of fiction. Merry Jones, author and member of the Liars Club and Mystery Writers of America, will guide you to create characters, plots and cliffhanger moments. This 8 week class, which includes prompts, lectures, discussion, reading and lots of writing, begins Tuesday, February 26th at Lower Merion High School.

When you are feeling creative, there is no art form that can quite provide the instant gratification of photography and nothing more satisfying than capturing beautiful images of the people you love. Take your photography skills to a new level in Portrait Photography, beginning Tuesday March 5th at Lower Merion High School. In this 5 week class you will explore light on the human figure, referencing lighting effects from the painting masters. Explore different backgrounds and learn about posing and positioning the subject, while emphasizing elements of design and composition.

Different periods in history can captivate the imagination in much the same way as a thrilling novel or film. In Russia in Transition: The Last Century of the Romanovs, study the sinister and turbulent period of Russian history from 1815-1917. Start with the destruction of Napoleon’s invading army and trace the relentless march of tsarist autocracy. Taught by the internationally published historian George D. Wrangham, this class begins on Monday, February 25th at the Creutzberg Center.
