Choosing the Perfect Christmas Tree in Downtown Ardmore

Trevor Lord is thrilled with his primo spot at Lancaster & Ardmore avenues.

Trevor Lord, 27, works in construction and contracting for 11 months a year. But for the past eight Decembers, Lord has been in the Christmas tree business.

Not until this year, though, has he been his own boss. Combining a prime location, at Lancaster and Ardmore avenues in downtown Ardmore, with a great connection through a friend who sells trees to him wholesale in South Jersey, Lord said earlier this week that he was feeling in clover.

"It's been a really good year so far," said Lord, a 2002 graduate of Lower Merion High School. "The location has been great to me, and the township has been really helpful."

Opening up shop on the corner on Dec. 1, he had sold 500 trees through Dec. 13 from his spacious lot, on the site of the infamous would-be drive-through Rite Aid. (The hardest thing about getting the spot up and running was finding out who the owner is, he said, adding, "I am really hoping this spot is available again next year.")

Lord said he has 140 trees on display at any given time, standing straight up on wooden stands in neat rows, like a small square grove of Douglas and Frasier firs. In the back, he's got another 100 stacked and ready to display.

Lord also offers tree stands (good ones) and home delivery, along with some pretty sweet wreaths. The prices? Not the cheapest in the area by a long shot, but from the looks of things, the old business standard of "You get what you pay for" seems to apply.

In the video here, we asked him how to pick the best tree for your home, and the difference in his two kinds of trees.
