Friends’ Central Drama to Perform “8” The Play
Friends’ Central Upper School drama students will be staging a performance of “8” The Play this Sunday, February 10 at 2:00 pm in Shallcross Hall on the School’s City Avenue campus.
According to American Foundation for Equal Rights, “8” The Play, by Academy-award winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, “demystifies the debate around marriage equality by chronicling the landmark trial of Perry v. Schwarzenegger. Using the actual court transcripts from the landmark federal trial of California's Proposition 8 and first-hand interviews, '8' shows both sides of the debate in a moving play."
Says FCS drama teacher and play director Terry Guerin, “Our production will give you a dramatic sense of the struggle for equality through actual testimony and the experiences of those touched by discrimination against gays. I am particularly proud of this group of students who have been working and researching this subject in order to bring it to our stage with integrity, humor, and grit.”
