The Week Ahead: 5 Things to Know

A heads up for those who live or work in Ardmore, Merion, Wynnewood and Haverford.

1. Roadwork continues on Ardmore Avenue and Wynnewood Road this week. Expect lane restrictions 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday, as per a PennDOT traffic bulletin.

2. Lower Merion Police Department may soon be filling some existing vacancies. On Wednesday, the Police Committee will consider whether to offer jobs to "a sufficient number of police applicants" to keep the department at 136 officers. The committee meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday in the township building's second floor board room, 75 E. Lancaster Ave., Ardmore.

3. The township's Chief Financial Officer will present the township's five year general fund financial forecast and discuss the preliminary 2013 budget on Wednesday night. 4. Also on Wednesday, the Building and Planning Committee will again consider an ordinance amendment that would establish standards for the . The committee meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the township building's second floor board room, 75 E. Lancaster Ave., Ardmore.

5. On Thursday night, will again go before the Zoning Hearing Board. At the applicant's request, the last hearing was continued.

There are those opposing LAFitness. It appears to me that Lower Merion's businesses are declining. More and more vacant stores on Lancaster Ave.

They are not opposing LA Fitness. They are troubled by LA Fitness wanting the option of being open 24 hours, since they foresee a potential adverse impact on the residential neighborhoods bordering the shopping center.

My point is that a there is a business use proposed and the proposal is rejected. Result no new business in Lower Merion. Some may think rejecting LAFitness is good and others not. The result is the same; no new business in Lower Merion with the consequences that brings.

Most people sleep at night so I can't imagine there would be much traffic at 3 am to disturb the neighbors.
