Historical Photo Location Revealed: Maybrook

The Main Line mansion, also known as the Merriam Estate, was built in 1881.

On Monday, we asked readers to identify the location of an undated photo taken somewhere in the Ardmore-Merion-Wynnewood Patch area.

As two readers correctly guessed, the photo is of Maybrook, a Wynnewood estate built in 1881. Located at 331 Penn Road and officially known as the Merriam Estate, the mansion has close to 40 rooms, including a two-story ballroom.

The original property contained 67 acres, but after passing to the owner's daughter, "the corner at Wynnewood Road and the railroad tracks was sold for the Thomas Wynne apartment building, enabling 220 more families to enjoy the woodsy grounds," according to Montgomery County: The Second Hundred Years.
