Get Out: Live Music, Riverbend Camp Out, Manayunk Arts Festival

What's going on in and around the Ardmore Patch area this weekend.

Live music abounds this weekend, as well as opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors in a variety of ways. MilkBoy features musicians three nights in a row this weekend, and the outdoor arts festival in Manayunk, a campout at Riverbend Environmental Education Center, and Bryn Mawr's Twilight Concert this Saturday are just a few of the ways to Get Out.

Enjoy live music at MilkBoy on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. MilkBoy's stage is booked every night this weekend. Three different dudes with guitar play on Friday (Dan Ascanio, Jon Paul and Ethan Pierce, $8 advance, $10 day of show), Laura Shay, Carsie Blanton and Alec Stewart take the stage on Saturday ($10 advance, $12 day of show), and Sunday, the stage features Lucas Carpenter, Samantha Gongol and Jake Ohlbaum ($8 advance, $10 day of show).

Check out some soul and country-inspired tunes, live. Enjoy singer/songwriter Susan Werner and opening act The Night Cafe at Bryn Mawr's Twilight Concert Series this Saturday night. Feel free to bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the music. Parking for the concert is free, and the concert will be held outdoors, rain or shine.

  • Cost: Donation is $10 per person, children ages 16 and younger are free

Have tea with some magical friends. This Sunday, Tyler Arboretum is hosting a "Magical Friends Tea Party," which includes a magical scavenger hunt among the trees and flowers of the arboretum. Create crafts, including an enchanted halo, and have tea and cookies with fairies, gnomes and wizards. Fairy, elf, gnome, goblin or wizard attire is encouraged, but not required, ages 4 and up. Pre-registration required.

  • When: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 26
  • Cost: $8 per person for members, $10 for nonmembers

Check out the Manayunk Arts Festival. The event runs most of the day on Saturday and Sunday, and features more that 275 arts and crafts vendors, who will offer original art, handmade jewelry and one-of-a-kind housewares (check out some of the wares  by visiting the festival website). As a bonus, many Manayunk restaurants are offering specials during festival hours.

Camp out close to home. Get a chance to go camping without being too far from home this weekend, at Riverbend Environmental Education Center in Gladwyne. Bring a tent and sleeping bags and Riverbend will take care of the food, fire and staff. Pre-registration required, contact Stacy at scarr@riverbendeec.org or 610-527-5234 x108.
