Get Out: Animals, Hip Hop and Swing Dancing

Find out what's going on in the Ardmore Patch area this weekend.

With Hurricane Irene and heavy rains expected, some of this weekend's fun outdoor events may end up being canceled or rescheduled. Cross your fingers for sunshine—but even if it does rain, Patch has you covered: check out Milkboy's Hip Hop Showcase on Friday, see Incendies at Bryn Mawr Film Institute, or go swing dancing in Media.

And as a reminder, First Friday Main Line Sings The Blues next Friday, Sept. 2. The events (including some awesome blues artists) will be centered in Ardmore, and the featured non-profit will be the Ardmore-based breastcancer.org.

Family Fun Night At The Park. See live animals, explore nature, go on a scavenger hunt, and enjoy other activities for the whole family at 's Family Fun Night At The Park on Saturday.

Incendies. Incendies—in French and Arabic with English subtitles—was nominated for Best Foreign Film at the Oscars. The film chronicles a brother and sister's quest to discover who their mother really was, following cryptic instructions from her will.

"Way 2 Fame" Hip Hop Showcase. In a change of pace from the usual guy-with-acoustic-guitar style evening at MilkBoy, the cafe will host live hip hop artists on Friday night. Performers include Reality Childs and R&B artist Musical Zu.

Concert Under The Stars: Scythian with Matt Cermanski. Bryn Mawr Twilight Concerts are over—and summer almost is, too—but Upper Merion Township is hosting the last of its outdoor summer concerts this Sunday. Scythian is a feisty Celtic band with punk rock influences. If you're not up and dancing, your feet, at least, will be tapping.

  • Where: Upper Merion Township Building Park, 175 W. Valley Forge Road, King of Prussia
  • Cost: $5 per person (can be purchased here); free for children ages 16 and younger & adults 62 and older

Swing Loft Dance Party. Every fourth Saturday of the month, Sangha hosts a West Coast Swing lesson, followed by a dance mix featuring West Coast Swing, Country 2-step, NC 2-step and Cha, plus a DJ who takes requests. The lesson and refreshments are included in the price of admission. BYOB. No experience or partner needed.
