Flash Flood, Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Montco

The National Weather Services has declared a flash flood watch through 4 a.m. Saturday.

Due to the potential for heavy rains causing rapidly developing and dangerous flooding, the National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Montgomery County through 4 a.m. Saturday. The watch is for Philadelphia and surrounding counties.

Additionally, a severe thunderstorm warning is in effect through 9 p.m. Friday.

According to the weather service, "low pressure will move along a stationary front in the mid-Atlantic region this afternoon and this evening. Resulting thunderstorms may yield rainfall rates exceeding 2-inches in less than an hour. Additional thunderstorms may track across the same area resulting in flash flooding."

The heavy rains could also impact travel on major roadways, including the service said, the I-95 corridor.

The NWS said flash flooding can cause very dangerous situations and residents of areas included in the watch should monitor the forecast.
