A heads up for those who live or work in Ardmore, Merion, Wynnewood, Penn Wynne or Haverford.

 

1. Among 32 students selected Rhodes Scholars on Sunday was Penn Valley resident and Yale University student David M. Carel.
From the Rhodes website:  

"David is a senior at Yale where he majors in economics. He cofounded an education technology start-up and performs as lead drummer in a West African dance troup and as an instructor in Rukdan Israeli dancing. He has become a leading advocate relating to HIV/AIDS, including as president of an AIDS coalition at Yale and as a national board member of the Student Global AIDS campaign. He has done extensive work at the community level in a small town in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, the country of his parents’ birth. He is fluent in Zulu and Hebrew."

2. The Lower Merion Board of School Directors will meet at 8 p.m. Monday. Read the agenda on the LMSD website.  

3. Lower Merion's Board of Commissioners meets Monday night at 8 p.m. Among the items for consideration is the appointment of a chief technology officer and the receipt of an honor from the Suburban Realtors Alliance. The group selected the township out of 238 municipalities in southeastern Pennsylvania for the "Open Book Award for Transparency in Local Government."

4. Lower Merion schools will dismiss early on Wednesday: high schools at 11:20 a.m., middle schools at 11:55 a.m. and elementary schools at 12:25 p.m. There will be no school Thursday or Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.
