Yeats Pub in Ardmore is Now 'Bistro 30'

Longtime owner Joe Tahir said it was time for a change.

For 10 years or so, it was the . Before that, it was Il Giardino, an Italian restaurant. Before that, the place was a college hangout called the Friendly Saloon

Now, the name has changed again, but the ownership, under partner-owner Joe Tahir, has stayed the same these past 25 years.

The establishment at 202 E. Lancaster Avenue in Ardmore, wedged between an appliance store and an auto parts place near the corner of Church Road, is now known as "Bistro 30."

"We brought in a new chef 10 months ago, and we wanted the name to reflect the new menu," said Tahir. "And to be honest, it seems like anybody can call themselves an Irish bar anymore. We're more food-oriented."

The new man in the kitchen, who prefers to be known only as "Chef Greg," is serving up a combination of hearty flavors to go with a wide selection of beers on tap. They include New Orleans style touches (bourbon crawfish tails), southwestern fare (slow roasted prime rib was on the chalk board on Tuesday), Asian influences (Beijing grilled lamb chop) and some Italian (Chef Greg makes his own gnocchi).

"We've been doing well on weekends," said Tahir, "but it can be hit-or-miss.

"We just thought it was time for a change."
