WSJ: Halloween Sinks Teeth Into Borders

The Wynnewood site is not the only spot to get a temporary store.

The former site of Borders Books & Music in Wynnewood, , which will be in business through early November, is part of a nationwide trend of Halloween-themed retailers taking short-term leases on former Borders spaces, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.

The WSJ blog, "Bankruptcy Beat," cited the Ardmore-Merion-Wynnewood Patch and Patches in , Mass.; , Fla.; , N.J.; , Calif.; and , N.Y.—along with The Oklahoman, a newspaper in Oklahoma City—in reporting that "seasonal retailers" are "sinking their teeth into Borders’ left-behind real estate."

The stores include Halloween Adventure, Halloween City, Halloween Express, iParty, Party Galaxy and Spirit Halloween, Journal blogger Jacqueline Palank wrote. These kinds of retailers "like the empty stores because it gives them a chance to boost their presence during prime selling months without the costs associated with leasing the space year-round, and landlords no doubt appreciate any chance to make a buck off the deserted space."
