announced Thursday that it has signed a lease for a new store with more parking, just one block east from its current location (339 E Lancaster Ave, Wynnewood). The new store, to be located on Wynnewood Road, will increase Whole Foods' size from 16,650 to 45,000 square feet, with 254 parking spaces, according to public relations representative Defausha Hampton.

At the new location, Whole Foods will expand its offerings, including a larger bulk foods department, and will feature "an amazing array of local and artisan foods," the release states.

The new store is scheduled for an opening in 2015. In the interim, the current store will remain open.

The signing of the lease was announced in conjunction with WP Realty, a Bryn Mawr-based realty company.

“Whole Foods Market will be the key component to the revitalization of the Wynnewood Road corridor. They are a marquee store and we are proud of our association with them,” said Bryan Weingarten, WP Realty’s Chief Executive Officer, in the release. “The bigger space will allow for a better shopping experience. We look forward to them being a staple of the community and at this site for years to come.”

Representatives of the Whole Foods' Wynnewood location could not be reached for comment, but the following status update was posted to the store's Facebook page on Thursday afternoon:

It's true, after all these years we will be getting a larger location for our store. The first step, the signing of the lease, has been accomplished. It will be a few years of construction, but it is coming! More parking and a bigger store so that we can better serve our community. I am so excited!!!

Patch will provide updates on the new Whole Foods Market and the Wynnewood Road revitalization as they become available.

Well it looks like it will be somewhere between 1 and 39 E Wynnewood, since those are the properties WP Realty owns

The gas station.

The WP properties include everything from the old fitness store (currently vacant) at the corner of Wynnewood and Penn all the way down to the Cumberland Farms gas station, it seems. Not sure if that includes the small strip center with the Edible Arrangements store or not. Sounds like they plan on razing the whole area and building a large Whole Foods and parking lot. This is great news particularly in light of the fiasco that has unfolded at the conversion of Genuardi's to Giant. 2015 can't come soon enough. In the interim, looks like we shlep to Wegmans.

They don't own the Citizens Bank property. What's so bad about Giant?
