Main Line Bakers Spin Sugar into Building Replica

Written by Alison Smith

It seems Alexis Snader Braunfeld of Villanova and Gina Pileggi Cox of Roxborough can make almost anything out of sugar.

The women are the owners and innovators behind Sugar Treasures, a cake and confection company based on the Main Line. Patch has profiled the pair before, during the 2013 U.S. Open, when they turned the Open’s logo into an edible sugar treat.

This time, they were tasked with something bigger — a cake-and-sugar replica of The Residence at The Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr. The cake was presented in early October at an event honoring school founder Florence Baldwin.

The cake took about 70 hours to complete, and when finished stood 2 feet high and 20 inches across.

The building known as The Residence started life as the second incarnation of the Bryn Mawr Hotel. It was designed by Frank Furness and opened in 1891.
