LA Fitness Hearing Postponed

At the request of the applicant, Thursday's hearing has been rescheduled for Aug. 20.

The continuation of a hearing regarding has been postponed to Aug. 20, according to Zoning Hearing Board secretary Michael Wylie. The continued hearing was originally scheduled for Thursday night.

Federal Realty Investment Trust, the owners of the , presented their request for a variance allowing a fitness center use at the July 12 meeting of the Lower Merion Zoning Hearing Board. The previous Borders space, now occupied by Affordable Home Furnishings, would become an upscale, "signature" LA Fitness, the first in eastern Pennsylvania.

Several community members attending the July 12 hearing expressed concerns with the plan, specifically with the request that LA Fitness be allowed to operate 24/7, if the gym decides it is economically advantageous to do so.

At the July 12 meeting, Zoning Hearing Board members requested additional information of Federal Realty and LA Fitness representatives, including information on how the fitness center vets its employees.

Federal Realty representatives requested to continue the hearing to July 26.

Wylie said Wednesday that the July 26 hearing has been postponed to Aug. 20 at the request of the applicant.
