Liquidation of the Wynnewood Borders began Friday. Use those rewards cards soon.

Last Tuesday morning, all of its 399 remaining bookstores, including the 27,500 square-foot . The word was that liquidation of the store could begin as soon as Friday, July 22.

That’s exactly what happened, and if this weekend’s crowds were any indication, the company’s aggressive effort to sell off its remaining stock won’t last long. The photo of the parking lot seen here was taken at about 4 p.m. on Saturday, on one of the hottest days of the year. Crowds were also thick Friday evening, when we stopped in for a look.

Deals of 40 percent off—and more—had inventory moving.

Deadlines

If you a have Borders Rewards card, check your email for notifications from Borders and instructions on how to use those accumulated points, both in the stores themselves, online, or via coupons good for restaurants affiliated with the chain.

Borders gift cards will be honored during the liquidation sales, and Borders Rewards Plus will continue to get discounts through August 5, Borders CEO Mike Edwards announced in a letter to customers. All acculmulated "Borders Bucks" will be honored until they expire, on July 31.

All sales at every store are final, and personal checks are not being accepted.
