Apple Store Closed for the Week; Pierre Deux to Close For Good

Apple will re-open Monday, Sept. 19. Pierre Deux is liquidating.

First in a series about changes at Suburban Square in Ardmore.

The on St. James Place in is closed for the week, scheduled to re-open Monday (Sept. 19).

“They are doing renovations—some work to the entryway,” said Mark Bachus, the shopping center’s general manager.

“They are making some changes to the interior, and they had to move a couple of sprinkler heads, so that forces the tenant to actually close down for a period of time until they get the sprinkler back up.”

The Apple Store website refers customers to the store in King of Prussia during the week it is shuttered.

Bachus affectionately calls the Apple Store “the Beast,” a stalwart, A-list retailer even in a shopping center that is more than 95 percent leased.

Adieu to Pierre Deux

That figure holds even with the recent closure of the women’s clothier , which leased two floors a block away through the courtyard, the departure of the outlet in the Spring, , and the imminent demise of , a high-end “country French” furniture and home décor shop across Coulter Avenue within the Square.

Burdened with massive debt, Pierre Deux’s parent company, Arts des Provinces de France, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation in June, according to trade publication Furniture Today. The Suburban Square location was one of 23 in 13 states.

A person working with the liquidation firm at the store on Tuesday said it would likely remain open until the end of September. Discounts of 50 to 70 percent off the remaining merchandise were being advertised.
