One Dead, Two Injured in Lower Merion Car Crash

Two vehicles collided at the intersection of Spring Mill Road and Morris Avenue on Tuesday morning.

A 72-year-old Conshohocken man was killed and two were injured in a car accident in the Villanova section of Lower Merion Tuesday morning.   

According to Lower Merion Police, at 10:28 a.m., a red Prius traveling west on Morris Road collided with a 1999 Chevrolet van that was headed southbound on Morris Avenue.

The driver and lone occupant of the van, Winston Staats, was partially ejected from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. 

The driver of the Prius suffered minor injuries, while her child was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to receive treatment for injuries that were not life-threatening.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated by the Traffic Safety Unit.

Spring Mill Road was closed between Mt. Pleasant Road and Old Gulph Road while authorities conducted an on-scene investigation, but reopened at 2:30 p.m.
