From March 4 through March 18, 2012, over 20 repurposed wood framed windows will be on display and the subjects of a silent auction at the Kaiserman Jewish Community Center, 45 Haverford Road, Wynnewood.

Window Wonderland will feature ordinary windows transformed into works of art by area artists, crafters and otherwise creative individuals recruited following a home improvement project of Kaiserman JCC Development Director and Wynnewood resident, Nan Latona. “After replacing all of our old windows with new energy efficient vinyl ones, I hated the thought of the old ones ending up in a landfill somewhere,” says Latona about her idea for the project. “I planned to keep a couple of the sashes for myself and offer some to my more creative friends who I knew could create something special out of them.” It then occurred to her that the project would not only be a great way to build community among likeminded individuals; it could also serve as a fundraiser for the programs and services of the Kaiserman JCC.

Since its inception the project has grown to include artist members and staff of the JCC in addition to Latona’s personal acquaintances. Media used to embellish the windows include found objects, collage materials, glass globs and photo transfers.

Window Wonderland can be viewed online starting February 20 at www.phillyjcc.com/window.  The exhibition will be up at the JCC from March 4-19.
