"Possible Cities: Africa In Photography and Video" Opening Reception

At Haverford College's WCC Art Gallery

Curated by Visiting Professor of Anthropology Ruti Talmor, "Possible Cities: Africa in Photography and Video" explores the African metropole as a confluence of history and fantasy, promise and struggle. Photo and video installations by Sammy Baloji, Pieter Hugo, Sabelo Mlangeni, Salem Mekuria, Ingrid Mwangi, and Guy Tillim challenge representations of Africa as neither traditional utopia or post-colonial distopia, offering instead a more complicated picture of cosmopolitanism, and of the relationship between pasts and futures.
