2nd Annual A Cappella Winter Workshop and Invitational Concert

2nd Annual A Cappella Winter Workshop and Invitational Concert

Bass Singer Barry Carl Headlines the Second Annual Project-Philly A Cappella Winter Workshop and Invitational Concert

The workshop is offered in conjunction with the Lower Merion A Cappella club at Lower Merion High School. LMAC is holding their annual High School Invitational A Cappella Concert that evening from 7:30 to 9:30 PM. Five high school contemporary a cappella groups will perform. The Invitational Concert is free and open to the public.

Vocal professional Barry Carl, best known as the bass singer for the internationally-recognized singing group Rockapella, will lead workshop sessions and provide on-stage performance clinics for contemporary a cappella singers at the 2nd Annual A Cappella Winter Workshop taking place at Lower Merion High School in Ardmore, PA on Saturday, January 21, 2012. Joining Barry Carl will be renown a cappella arranger and performer Tom Anderson of Random Notes, LLC vocal arranging service.

Barry Carl is an actor, singer, voice-over artist, composer, teacher and writer with extensive experience onstage, on-camera and in the recording studio. His commercial credits include national and international work in voice-overs, promos, theatrical trailers, character voices and jingles for both TV and radio, book narration, on-camera work, point-of-purchase campaign spots, animation, in-house industrial narration, and CD-ROM and film narration. He can be heard daily on national TV, radio, and on the Internet. Barry’s experience extends deeply into the musical realm. With his skill in linguistics, Barry has sung opera and recital repertoire in thirteen different languages, and has been in plays and musicals both on and off Broadway as well as operettas and musical reviews. For nearly fifteen years his resplendent basso was the foundation upon which the popular a cappella group Rockapella built their intricate melodies of rock and roll, R&B, pop, and jazz, with fifteen albums and numerous compilations to his credit. The Contemporary A Cappella Society of America named him ‘The most influential bass singer of the last thirty years’.

Tom Anderson’s arrangements can be heard on multiple issues of the BOCA (Best of Collegiate A Cappella), Sing!, and Voices Only CD compilations and on the hit NBC a cappella showcase “The Sing-Off”. His arranging clients include 5-time Grammy winners the Swingle Singers, award-winning a cappella solo artist Peter Hollens, ICCA champions Pitch Slapped, and dozens of other vocal groups across the country (and occasionally beyond). A former member of pro a cappella groups Ball in the House and Four Shadow and original music director of UW-Eau Claire Fifth Element, Tom is the founder and owner of Random Notes LLC, an arranging service specializing in vocal music for groups of all styles, makeups, and abilities, and situated cozily online at www.random-notes.com.

These two accomplished professionals will be offering two morning workshop presentations each to registered participants. Tom Anderson will be leading sessions entitled "A Cappella Arranging for All Experience Levels" and "Vocal Percussion Techniques for All Experience Levels". Barry Carl will be lending workshop participants his expertise on "Vocal Technique and Ensemble Performance for All Singers" and "Stage Presence and Presentation".

In the afternoon, Anderson and Carl will provide a live on-stage clinic for eight a cappella groups from high schools, universities, and semi-professional post-collegiate backgrounds. Each group will have thirty minutes to perform and have their work critiqued by the clinicians.

This workshop is an educational offering of The A Cappella Project - Philadelphia, a non-profit charitable organization promoting contemporary a cappella music in the Greater Philadelphia area. It is being held in conjunction with Lower Merion High Schopol's Winter A Cappella Invitational Concert, which will take place that evening and feature five high school contemporary a cappella groups.

The 2nd Annual Winter Workshop is open to the public. Registration is $25 for adults and $20 for students. Registration can be completed online at http://bit.ly/winterworkshop12
