SEPTA Seeks White House Help With Labor Dispute

If an agreement isn't reached, two Regional Rail unions could strike or be locked out.

SEPTA has asked the White House to appoint an emergency board to help settle its disputes with Regional Rail electrician and engineer unions.

The unions could strike or SEPTA could lock workers out beginning June 14 if agreements are not reached, The Philadelphia Inquirer said.

Both unions last week agreed to binding arbitration, but SEPTA refused, the Inquirer said.

An emergency board appointed by the president would delay a strike or lock-out for 240 days, the Inquirer said.
