D.I.G.S. supports We Care 2013 holiday workshop for city kids

Harcum's Interior Design students have formed a new student club called D.I.G.S. (Designing Individuals Growing and Serving) and have organized their first community service project just in time for the holidays. Just before Thanksgiving, the club met to create a sample craft item they plan to offer at the We Care event. Their craft ideas must offer varying degrees of difficulty, use harmless materials, and not take a long time to complete. Held annually at the Boys and Girls Club at 2500 Jackson Street in Philadelphia, We Care provides one hundred (100) 5 to 10 year olds with the opportunity to make gifts that they might not normally be able to afford to give to their families during the holiday season. On Thursday, Dec 12tfrom 4 to 6pm, D.I.G.S. will host a table stocked with pine cones, pom-poms, popsicle sticks, and ribbons. They will help the children make crafts together to experience a sense of accomplishment and also to creates gifts for family and friends. Herman Miller, who designed the new Trout Library furniture, provides all the tables, snacks, beverages, and a visit from Santa. Student organizer and D.I.G.S. member Kelly Frich said, "Our goal is to become more involved in the school and community by representing Harcum as both Interior Design students and alumni."
