Ardmore boy plays National Anthem at Sixers game

(Bryn Mawr, PA) -- Seven-year-old Ardmore resident Aidan Peterson was selected to play the National Anthem at the 76ers v. Nets game on December 20.

Aidan, who lives with his mother Amy Shumoski, took instrumental lessons at the Harcum Music School in Bryn Mawr, which is affiliated with Harcum College where his mother is employed as web manager.

Several college employees attended the game to support Aidan, including Harcum College President Jon Jay DeTemple and his family. "It was a great honor to see Aidan succeed in such a high-profile setting," DeTemple said. "He is certainly a credit to the quality of Harcum Music School instruction. Next stop--Carnegie Hall?"

His mother sent in a recording of her son playing the anthem for officials in the 76ers organization to consider around Thanksgiving. Within about 10 days, he was notified that he'd been selected to play the anthem at an upcoming game and chose December 20.

His mother reported that after he completed the anthem, he curled up in his grandmother's lap to watch the game and shortly thereafter took a little nap.
