Date: Saturday January 5th, 2013 Location: Temple Sholom in Broomall, PA (located off I-476) Time: 10:00-12:00 Presenter: Ryan Wexelblatt, MSS Topic: Improving social skills and social thinking skills for children diagnosed with ADHD, Asperger's and high-functioning autism spectrum diagnoses. What is commonly referred to as social skill deficits are actually learning gaps in social cognition. Social cognition is the ability to think in a social context and apply social skills relevant to the situation. In order for children to improve their social skills they must be taught how to develop their social cognition. The vast majority of social skills training methods teach rote memorization of "surface skills", not thinking skills. This presentation will help you to understand the foundation of social learning needs and what can be done to help improve social cognition. Ryan Wexelblatt is the Founder and Director of Camp Sequoia and Sequoia Kids Program which serve children and adolescents who present with social learning needs. Camp Sequoia and Sequoia Kids utilize Michelle Garcia Winner's Social Thinking framework. RSVP requested but not required. Please contact office@camp-sequoia.com for directions or to RSVP.
