Arthur Miller's An Enemy of the People at SJU Theatre Company
Saint Joseph's University, 5600 City Ave, Philadelphia, PA | Get Directions »
$18.00
A small Norwegian town has just begun to win fame and wealth through its medicinal spring waters, having constructed a health spa to boost the economy. Dr. Stockmann, resident physician in charge, discovers that the waters are poisoned because town officials and the board of the corporation that built the spa did not heed his warning that improper construction could lead to contamination. On receiving proof of this, he immediately reports to his associates, but is shocked to find that instead of being thanked, he is looked upon as a dangerous crank out to ruin the town, and is pressured to keep silent. He must decide whether to give in or risk everything and speak the truth.
Arthur Miller's 1950 adapation for American audiences, based on Henrik Ibsen's 1882 classic, is as timely as today's headlines. Presented by SJU Theatre Company, the premiere theatre producing organization at Saint Josephs' University for 80 years; it was founded in 1928 under the name Cap and Bells.
