It's All In The Timing

There was some last minute excitement at the Bala Middle School Polls last night.  And we mean last minute!

Starting at 7:47 p.m., local resident Allison Berman and her daughter,  who only live 2-3 blocks away, came flying into the election site, saying, "I knew I had to vote today and I just remembered to get here."

They were followed by Kate Ferber and an overwhelmed friend at 7:51 who drove in all the way from Maine. There was a long delay getting here as four exits on the New Jersey Turnpike were closed but she made it.

Next was a very pleasant African American oman at 7:55 who was so flustered because she had originally been sent to the wrong polling place.  I didn't get her name because the media grabbed her to talk to her.

And last but not least... at 7:58 p.m., in flies Larry Gillston (talking so fast I hope I spelled his last name correctly).  He was supposed to leave LA on a 2 p.m. flight that was delayed.  He sat in the airport praying he would get to the polls on time.

He must be connected to the right people because he did arrive on time and closed the polls for us.  Way to go Larry.

Thanks to everyone who came out to vote!

Mimi,

Your report of voters so committed to voting in heartening. I was so impressed by the actions of those people who waited for as long as 8 hours in line to vote that, for the first time in a long time, I felt good about election turnout nationally. My wife and I voted at about 9am. We had to wait all of about two minutes to get into a booth after a 5 minute ride to out polling place. It was all so easy for us, while so difficult for others. We all should commend those who fought the odds to place their vote regardless of for whom they voted.
