Two Stop Signs Planned For Rockland Ave in Merion

Police Superintendent Michael McGrath: "It's a good place for stop signs."

Merion residents could soon have two new gleaming red and white stop signs along Rockland Avenue due to a proposed Board of Commissioners Police Committee recommendation.

The Board of Commissioners will vote at their Wednesday, Sept. 22 to pass or table a "notice of intention" to adopt an ordinance allowing the township to erect the two new signs.

The two new stops would be located at Rockavon Road and Rockland Avenue and Merwyn Road (on the west side) and Rockland Avenue, respectively. The summary of the proposed ordinance states, "The 'Stop' regulations are for the minor street approaches at T-intersections and the regulations will more clearly establish the right-of-way for the intersecting 'through' streets."

"The summary pretty much covers it," said Michael McGrath, Superintendent of the Lower Merion Police, at the Board of Commissioners committee meeting on Sept. 15. "It's a good thing, and it's a good place for stop signs."

Any residents wishing to comment or voice their opinions on the plan can speak at the Wednesday, Sept. 22 Board of Commissioners meeting, beginning at 8 p.m. in the second floor board room of the Township Administrative Building, or contact their commissioner.
