Dance In The Streets—Literally—First Friday, May 4

First Friday Main Line's May 4 event features swing, hip hop, tap and belly dancing.

This Friday night, locals can swing into spring in Ardmore—and tap dance, ballroom dance, and belly dance into spring, too, if you feel like it.

First Friday Main Line returns on May 4 to host a block party on Cricket Avenue that focuses on the art of dance.

The free party runs from 6 to 10 p.m., with a group of pint-sized ballroom dancers kicking things off at 6:30 p.m. Throughout the night, partygoers can see and dance alongside tap dancers, swing dancers, indigenous dancers and belly dancers.

Some of the participating groups include:

  • Dancing Classrooms Philly Allstars Ballroom
  • V Renee Price School of Dance
  • Tapography with David Persia
  • Tribal Fusion & interpretive belly dancing from Jenna Bowles
  • Lindy Hop Champions Carsten Starke & Karen Ploucquet
  • First Position Dance Arts, home of Indigenous Pitch Dance Collective
  • Swing Dance with Paul Salter & Sam Sheesley
  • Gin Canaries Swing Band

Paintings, photography and sculptures will also be featured throughout the Ardmore area, including at Firinji, Past Present Future and Main Line Art Center; check the FFML website for the full list.

"What I think is so cool about all the First Friday events is even if we just have music, people will just get up and dance—kids do it, old people get up and dance, everyone does it," FFML Executive Director Sherry Tillman said. "There are people that are so excited to have something in their neighborhood and you know—it’s just so cool to be dancing in the street."

Next month's First Friday event, on June 1, will be the annual car show. Check out photos from last year's First Friday car show.

I hope you take the profit you make from the advertising here and turn it into cash for some reporter to do an actual story. Does Patch pay people for actual stories, or just drek like this? Everytime I come back here to learn something, I see some asinine "poll" or some crap like this. I read you are owned by AOL. Don't they have some money to spend?? I also hear you haven't had an editor for Ardmore in more than two months, and that your first two editors were driven out by shear frustration. Looking at you over the last two months, that is very easy to believe.
Show me something in the next week or I am gone forever.

For instance, there is a pretty significant event/announcement that is going to happen regarding LM Twp on Sunday. Do you know what it is? Of course you don't.

Joe - this isn't a paid advertisement, Patch did an arts based story based on press releases and info we posted on the First Friday website and First Friday Facebook page. We have had the pleasure of dealing with Amanda on First Friday events for a couple of years now.

If you have information regarding something happening at LM Township, send Amanda the press release or information.

I agree that Patch has had issues and I too hope to see more "newsy" stories, but kindly refrain from referring to First Friday Main Line events as "drek" . First Friday Main Line brings a lot of positives to the community by bringing local artists, musicians, and small businesses together with people in the community locally. In addition, it brings foot traffic to Main Street Ardmore from outside our immediate community.

thanks
