See Where and When Lower Merion's Burglaries Happened in 2011

Police have reported 159 burglaries so far this year.

This MapQuest graphic shows the date and location of every reported burglary that Lower Merion Township police responded to in 2011—including a few in the borough of Narberth.

Each address is approximate, within the street block police reported. The incidents are also listed in a spreadsheet attached to this article.

Township police have reported 159 burglaries this year through Dec. 11. The department responded to 226 in 2010, a significant increase from preceding years, according to FBI statistics.

Patch will update both the map and the spreadsheet with incidents from the remainder of December, once police report them.

It would be very helpful to also see where Narberth police have responded to burglaries, because that's who would normally respond to incidents in Narberth.

This is very clever and a real service by PATCH. As we can see, most of burglaries were near City Ave and Philadelphia. good work and all the best in your continuing endeavors to keep us informed.

How about a reverse-report; that is, all the homes/businesses that were not burglarized; given the density of housing, I would expect that most of them were also near City Line Avenue...Philadelphia.

It is almost a certainty that fewer business and homes near City Line were not burglarized than were. Nevertheless, this is where there is a concentration of burglaries according to police statistics which, as far as I know, are reliable.

I don't understand your point.

Having lived most of my life in Penn Valley and Merion and then on the fringes of Northern Libs in North Philly frankly, it appears that I might have been safer in the latter. But there should be a way to calculate population density, criminal activity and proximity to the city but I do not believe that is the subject. The subject is 'those people' vs us. Personally, I find the speculation objectionable.

Linda: When you say "those people," who? And what is the speculation in this story and its comments that you object to? We'll try to address them if we can--that is, if you can articulate exactly what you are implying.

The map provides reliable and useful data and shows where, not who, commits the crimes.
