Police Arrest Two Near St. Joe's, One Near Merion Elementary, on Public Drunkenness Charges
An 18-year old was found covered in blood and vomit, and another man was arrested after being found lying on City Avenue, according to the police.
Three young men were arrested by Lower Merion Police over the past week for alleged public drunkenness, fueling ongoing concerns about unruly youth behavior in Merion.
At 9:21 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4, local police responded to a call about a potential overdose at Hogan Hall on St. Joseph's campus, where an 18-year old male student from Hillsborough, NJ had fallen and injured himself, according to a Lower Merion Police report.
The young man was found in a dormitory with sustained injuries, and his head was covered in blood and vomit, according to the police. He showed signs of intoxication, and was taken to University of Pennsylvania Hospital for treatment, the report said.
The student was arrested for public drunkenness and underage drinking. Police said there was no indication of how he fell.
In a separate incident on Saturday, Nov. 6, a 24-year old male from Moylan, PA was arrested at 4:33 a.m. along City Avenue near St. Joe's for public drunkenness, according to the police.
The man was found lying on City Avenue by St. Joseph's University public safety near Cardinal Avenue – adjacent to the university's campus. When Lower Merion Police arrived at the scene, the man slurred his words and showed signs of intoxication, according to the report.
He was arrested for his own safety and issued a citation for public drunkenness, according to the police.
A third unrelated incident occurred on Saturday, Nov. 6 outside of Merion Elementary School at 12:32 p.m., according to the police.
A 23-year old male pulled over his pickup truck and ordered a 21-year old passenger to get out, according to the report. The passenger was under the influence of alcohol and was about to be sick, and the driver did not want the passenger to be sick in the car, police said.
Police responded to the scene and arrested the passenger for public intoxication and found the driver was operating the vehicle with a suspended license – he was issued a citation, according to the police.
