Police Arrest Suspected Merion Burglar

Michael E. McMonigle has been arrested on four burglary charges and one attempted burglary in the township.

On Friday October 22nd at 1:45 p.m., a residence in the 200 block of Avon Rd. was burglarized. A neighbor of the victim observed a male on the victim's property and provided a description of the male and his vehicle.

The description matched that of a suspect that had been developed in a rash of recent burglaries. The witness positively identified the male suspect. The subject was placed under surveillance and he was later observed leaving a property on Charles Lane in Wynnewood. He was arrested for trespassing.

Subsequent to his arrest, search warrants were obtained and two Philadelphia residences were searched.

During the searches a large amount of jewelry was recovered as well as the items taken earlier from the burglary on Avon Rd. Since this arrest, Detectives have been canvassing pawn brokers in the region and recovered additional jewelry stolen during these burglaries.

The suspect was identified as: Michael E. McMonigle, white, male, 26-years old from 3648 Tilden St. Philadelphia.

McMonigle is being charged with four burglaries and one attempted burglary in Lower Merion between July and October 2010. He is being charged with additional offenses by the Philadelphia Police Department associated with burglaries in the Chestnut Hill section of the city.

During the burglaries, McMonigle was operating a 2007 black Sebring bearing Pa. Reg. GJC-7599.

Anyone with additional information about this subject or about the subject's vehicle should contact Detective George Ohrin at 610-645-6233.
