Restricted Hours Recommended for Wynnewood Restaurant

Lower Merion's Planning Commission on Monday night voted to recommend more restrictive hours of operation and outside-music policies at a Wynnewood property where Federal Realty wants to open a restaurant.
The applicants are looking to attract a restaurateur to the space and had been hoping to have permits in place to allow hours of operation as late as 2 a.m. However, residents of the Shortridge and Wynnewood civic associations have objected to the prospect of late night visitors to the Wynnewood Shopping Center and of outdoor music in the evenings.

The Planning Commission voted to send the preliminary land development plan along to the Board of Commissioners with a recommendation that any restaurant close by 11 p.m. weeknights, midnight Friday and Saturday nights and 10 p.m. Sunday and holiday nights. In addition, outdoor music would be permitted only by special township permit.
It was not immediately clear how these restrictions would affect Federal Realty's search for a tenant for their 6,500-square-foot property. The matter now goes to the BOC next Wednesday, Feb. 13.
Planning Commission Endorses School District Plan
Also at the meeting, the commission endorsed Lower Merion School District's plans to expand Gladwyne Elementary School and install temporary modular classrooms during construction.
Modular installation would begin this summer, with the permanent classrooms meant to be finished in time for the 2013-14 school year.
Gladwyne ES is one of four buildings, out of 10 in the district, that school administration officials hope to expand in response to a recent study projecting increased enrollment.

Don't buy a house near a shopping center if you aren't interested in a little extra foot traffic. 11PM, is that for real? Good luck finding a restaurant that wants to close at 11PM. HA! I know what would be great in this spot. A local bookstore!

23 East is allowed to operate until 2:00 AM. But then again - they're in a commercial district not surrounded by homes. But thanks for equating not wanting to hear people below your bedroom window at 2:00 with being less than forward thinking.

Can you name a single restaurant in Lower Merion or Narberth (other than 24-hour fast food places) that is serving customers at 11:00 p.m.? Nightlife closes down by 9:00 p.m. for the most part around here.

Bookstore wood be great, indeed. I suggested it as well but then realized I have not read a 'book' in YEARS although I do read... So with that said good luck finding an eatery paying for an alcohol permit restricted to 11. And yes- do not buy a house near a shopping center if you don't want it to ever become an issue, seriously, there is NO case stated otherwise,no offense intended. I did not buy in short ridge because if this very reason. It is also why those homes are capped in price. Affordable to those wanting an awesome colonial in LM... There is a reason. Tim- I can name only a few, u r correct. But that's what is wanted. So many other ideas would fit there.

How about a car wash? Hooters? PF Changs ? California Pizza Kitchen ? A locally owned group of two/three stores ? Something for kids ( can't beat the parking ) ? Milk shake shop called NO MOE FROYO ? Bakery, bread shop, wine store ? On n on... Best luck... We have zero faith in anything progressive here just yet. Ashame. Oye vey.

Thanks Forward Thinking Resident. We need so much more- forward thinking - in LM. I am hopeful in our talent pool of candidates who understand it is no longer 1950, perhaps 1978, starting to drive the agenda. Time to make LM what we know it can be, and is- behind our stone walls.
