Philadelphia Eagles Blow Lead in Loss to Lions

Another field goal sinks the Philadelphia Eagles, 26-23, in overtime.

Disgraceful.

After an ugly first half, the Philadelphia Eagles turned in an ugly fourth quarter in letting the Detroit Lions come back from 10 points down and win in overtime 26-23.

Another three turnovers – including two Michael Vick interceptions – once again crushed the Birds.

Former Gov. Ed Rendell summed it up best on a post-game show: "They suck."

That pretty much covers it.

The Lions couldn't get going for the first three quarters as the Eagles contained star wideout Calvin Johnson. But in the fourth quarter, quarterback Matthew Stafford got into a rhythm and the Lions rolled along with Johnson finishing with six catches and 135 yards.

A key injury to safety Nate Allen hurt the Birds in the fourth quarter and Coach Andy Reid was stating his usual after a loss at the podium.

"We gotta look at ourselves in the mirror and get better, me included," Reid stated.

The Eagles have had an ugly season. They're three wins were ugly and three losses were ugly too. This game was the worst loss.

The Lions did a great job of shutting down Shady McCoy, keeping the running back to 22 yards. This was also the third game the Eagles did not have a sack. The Birds defense, which held the Lions to just two field goals, just collapsed.

This was a must game for the Birds. And even though Reid is perfect out of the bye week, the Birds play the Atlanta Falcons, who right now are also perfect -- with a 6-0 record.

The first half, especially the first quarter, was possibly the worst effort the Eagles have displayed since the season started.

If Reid believes he's going to be coach next year, this start to the season probably is not what owner Jeffrey Lurie was looking for.

The Birds stand at 3-3 going into the bye week. Two weeks ago, they were 3-1.

The Eagles are not the team they should be. This is supposed to be a playoff-caliber team and they aren't showing it, in any aspects – offense, defense and special teams – of their game.

It's hard to stomach. And losses like this are making Eagles fans sick.

Disgraceful. That's pretty much all you can say.

Any further wins this season will result in the team once again just being good enough to prompt no changes within the Eagles organization.

And anyone can predict Andy's press conference today with his template list of cliches:

"They were a better football team"
"__________[insert name here________" is a phenomenal player
"I gotta do a better job"
"We need to go back and look at the films"
"I take responsibility"
"I thought it was the right decision at the time"

Zzzzzzzzzzzz..........

GREAT GAME, absolutely loved it, almost as much as I loved the Cowboys game yesterday. But, neither could compare to the defending Super Bowl Champs absolute destruction of the San Fran 49ers!!!!!!!!!!!

in the fourth quarter and OT the Lions racked up 200 yards, why? because Castillo is a bum!! Why would he take Nmandi off Megatron? Why would he start trying to blitz when they can't blitz? Where is Trent Cole? In OT, why is Vick in a 7-step dropback? The game was a disgrace, I agree! It's long past due that Reid and his goofy company of coaches be let go...I know Philly's cheesesteak economy will suffer, but we need a real coach!!

As a lifetime Eagles fan, I can't agree. I think they are just out of sync and need to get it together. I expect them to come off the bye week shining.

On another note, whoever writes up these weekly articles doesn't seem much of an Eagles fan.

I actually am rooting for them to do bad this year. I can no longer stand Andy Reid and Vick. I thought they would let Reid go before McBadd but this proves that Reid is no longer an effective coach in Philadelphia. Bye Bye Reid.

Where's Grudden when you need him? Chucky would turn this team around.

In the corporate world the company would cut its losses and get of the CEO, in this Reid should be fired. This season is a loss anyway, the Eagles are going nowhere, Jeff Laurie needs to quit defending Reid. Gruden would be a very nice replacement

When the Eagles signed Vick, I promised to send $50 to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah.every time the Eagles lost a game. They took in 40 of the dogs he brutalized. I double the contribution if Vick gets hurt; it's money well spent.
