Nuke Plant Generator Back Online
Was shut down last week after reported transformer failure
A generator that was shut down at the nuclear power plant in Limerick last week returned to full power at about 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, the plant's owner said in a brief statement issued to the media.
Exelon Generation said the station's 1200-megawatt Unit 1 generator, one of two at the facility, was back online following the "replacement and testing of an electrical transformer."
According to Nuclear Regulatory Commission reports, Unit 1 had been returned to operation at low power by early Monday morning and was at 80 percent power on Wednesday morning.
Unit 2 remained in operation during the outage.

They're still working on the valve problem. My husband was scheduled to start work on that in a few weeks, but got called in right after the transformer blew. He was supposed to be working a regular 40 hour week for a change, but tomorrow it will be a 12-hour shift and it looks like a couple 12-hour shifts this weekend. So I don't think things are fine just fine quite yet. I wish they would just admit the thing is old and parts are starting to break down with frequency, rather than treating the public like brain dead sensationalists. (Okay, there are a few brain dead sensationalists out there, but most people simply don't like being pandered to.)

Cindy, thanks for the update but if what you say is true, using your real name (and thus your husband's real name) may not be a good idea when talking about the problems at his place of employment. Who knows if his bosses will see this and take exception.
All that said, I have to agree that all of the recent issues at that plant are becoming concerning. If anything was to happen there, everything from Pottstown to Valley Forge would be in pretty big trouble.

They would be in trouble alright. Because they wouldn't say anything about it until sometime later. They dumped radioactive water into a creek leading to the schuylkill river and didn't bother to tell anybody. The radioactivity showed up in Philadelphia's water supply. They got around to mentioning something about it 6 months later.
