With New Wynnewood Whole Foods Coming, Other Buildings to be Demolished
A WP Realty representative provided some more details on the new Wynnewood Whole Foods store, set to open in 2015.
As Patch reported earlier this week, the Wynnewood Whole Foods has signed a lease and will be moving to a larger location with more parking—moving from a 16,650 square foot store to a new 45,000 foot store with 254 parking spaces, according to a Whole Foods press release.
Dan Fuchs, vice president of construction and development at WP Realty, spoke with Patch on Friday regarding the upcoming development.
Here are some highlights:
Will it be a standalone store? The new store will not be the anchor store in a stretch of stores, but a standalone store, Fuchs confirmed.
Where exactly will it be? The new store will extend from Wynnewood Rd. and Hampstead Circle down to 23 Wynnewood Rd. The store will end before the Citizens Bank property, which is not owned by WP Realty.
What will happen to the buildings there currently? The stores affected, located from 1 E. Wynnewood Rd. to 23 E. Wynnewood Rd., include Cumberland Farms, an office building and Library Video Company. Those buildings will be demolished, Fuchs said.
"We have some flexibility with their leases," Fuchs said. "They're all short term leases at this point."
What will not be affected? Not affected by the new Whole Foods building are Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (29 E. Wynnewood Rd.) and 35-39 E. Wynnewood Road, all of which are also owned by WP Realty.
Is more development coming? The original Whole Foods press release stated that the new store would be part of a revitalization effort on the Wynnewood Road corridor, located across from the Wynnewood Shopping Center.
No changes to WP Realty's other properties (29 E. Wynnewood Rd., 35-39 E. Wynnewood Rd.) have yet been announced.
"We're looking at options for that; there's nothing concrete right now," Fuchs said.

If you happen to interview him again, are they thinking of doing a parking garage under the building like at the one in Plymouth Meeting? It appears that the new store will be roughly the same size as the one in Plymouth Meeting. Can we expect it to be similar as far as features? Will there be a pub, a large eating area, a children's play area and a community center available for rental? Maybe it is too early to answer these questions, but it is definitely an exciting proposition for our community. (We lived in Plymouth Meeting and just moved to Ardmore in November and it was really nice having that WFs nearby in PM. That is the only thing I've really missed from PM). This is going to be awesome!

Some more details (and sketch plans, at least for the building/parking lot location) should be available in a few weeks. Fuchs didn't mention anything about underground parking, but I'll bring it up the next time I speak with him.

And the Cumberland Farms? Will it be relocated nearby? Their gas prices are among the best and they do a brisk business, so I can't imagine not having one nearby. Perhaps they will take over the now vacant property across the street?

ShopRite is expected to take over SuperFresh on Lancaster Avenue. SR has great storebrand products, including its own ShopRite line of Kosher and Organic, much cheaper than Giant and the gonifs of whole food

You know, there are conflicting reports of the size of the one in PM. Now that I did a more thorough search, some places say 45,000 sq ft and some say 65,000 sq ft. I dug through the Whole Foods site itself, and in a shareholder report, it says 65,000, so I guess it is 20K sq ft bigger. Sorry for the misinformation. My excitement got the better of me. Thank you, Amanda, for your reply to my questions. I really appreciate it. 45K square feet is still going to get the job done! A tiny WFs the day before Thanksgiving is a challenge, especially in that parking lot. I love the Main Line, but the tiny women in gigantic SUVs can be problematic in small parking lots;) I like Shop Rite too, so that is good news as well. There was one in East Norriton. They had EVERYTHING you could possibly imagine.

Is the Shop Rite going to be owned by the Brown's? They had the Food Fare and that was a great market. They had everything. When Genuardi's opened they had less selection even though the space was larger.
