Lower Merion Police: Lankenau Thefts Continue

Thefts continued to be reported at Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood, with three more incidents in the past week, Lower Merion Police said Monday.

A rash of reported thefts at Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood happened on two consecutive days last week—April 26 and 27—Lower Merion Township Police said today, adding to a dozen or so similar crimes at the hospital dating back to last September. 

A laptop EKG reader was stolen from the Lankenau overnight between April 26 and April 27. Employees first noticed the laptop was missing at 8 a.m. but believed a doctor or another employee had it. At 9:46 a.m., they decided it was gone and reported the theft to police, police said.

Another theft was reported from Main Line Orthopedics at Lankenau between 8:45 a.m. and 4 p.m. April 27. Police said an employee placed a purse in the top drawer of a desk and found it missing before leaving that afternoon. Two wallets were also discovered missing from the same office, police said, and credit cards and cash were stolen from both wallets. One wallet contained $60 cash, and the other contained $1, police said.

And $115 in cash was reported stolen from Main Line Surgeons on April 26. Police said the money was one day’s worth of deposits, stolen out of one of the offices. It is unknown who took the money, police said.

The thefts added to a number of similar thefts since last fall.

, in Lankenau's A parking lot, a car window was smashed in on the  driver's side. Stolen was an expensive suit and other clothes left on the seat of the car, police said. A few days before, an employee's wallet was reported stolen.

, a woman's wallet was stolen from her office, and a gift shop within the hospital was robbed. Someone came in through the ceiling for the latter crime, which netted some $300 in stolen merchandise.

In late December, a patient reported that $320 was stolen from his nightstand. On Jan. 17, a handbag valued at $150 and containing credit cards, gift cards and cash was stolen from the Annenberg Center for Medical Education building at Lankenau. On Feb. 10, another employee reported a stolen wallet.

In , another wallet was stolen from a desk drawer at the hospital, and another employee had $100 in cash stolen from a locker room.

And , a $1,300 laptop computer was reported stolen from a cart at Lankenau—an identical crime to one that happened in mid-February.

Burglary, assualt in Merion

Lower Merion Police also made a statement Monday reporting that three or four masked, armed men forced a Merion couple into their basement as their three children slept early Sunday morning. For a full story posted eariler on Patch, .

At their regular Monday afternoon briefing, township police announced the following other crimes and incidents in the Ardmore-Merion-Wynnewood area in the past week:

* There was a burglary on the unit block of Old Lancaster Road in Wynnewood on April 26. Police said residents left at the house at 10 a.m. and returned at 2:15 a.m., and it appeared someone had attempted to pry their way into the apartment. Police said it appears the burglar entered the apartment building through a fire escape.

* Four bicycles were reported stolen from a home on the 200 block of Rose Lane in the Haverford section of Lower Merion on April 25, police said. The four bicycles stolen include two women’s green 26-inch Raleigh bicycles, a men’s blue-gray 26-inch Trek bicycle and another red men’s bicycle, police said. The four bikes were stolen from a locked storage shed on the property sometime between December and March, police said, adding the shed’s doors had been taken off. The bicycles are valued at about $2,400.

* A theft was reported from White House Black Market on Calder Avenue in Ardmore on April 26 between 1:45 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. A silver zipper wallet was stolen, as well as a bank card, $50 in cash and $100 in euros, police said, adding they were stolen from one of the employees’ handbags. Purchases were made on the bank card at the Target in Plymouth Meeting.

* Two silver Razor scooters and a boys’ BMX-style bike were stolen from the 200 block of Upland Road in Merion. Police said the scooters and bike were last seen on the enclosed front porch of the residence. They were stolen sometime between April 20 and April 27, police said.
