Last Chance: Rain Barrel, Composting Workshop

The workshop is Saturday, May 12 at 10 a.m.

We've seen hundreds of events come and go in the community, but how often does one pass you by that you wish you hadn't missed out on? That's where we come in. Each week, Ardmore Patch will post a quick reminder about events, activities or important tasks with upcoming deadlines.

At 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12, Lower Merion Township will sponsor a rain barrel and composting workshop at the township building, 75 E Lancaster Ave. in Ardmore.

The workshop is free, and rain barrels and compost bins will be available for purchase.

From a Lower Merion Township press release:

Using a rain barrel is a great way to reduce the impacts of stormwater runoff. By installing a rain barrel under your roof top gutters you can minimize the amount of stormwater runoff that leaves your property, thus helping to reduce flooding. In addition, capturing rainwater and reusing it in your garden will also help to reduce your monthly water bill.

Composting turns grass clippings, plant-based food scraps and leaves into a valuable organic material that can be added to your garden and flower beds. At the workshop you will learn what materials should and should not be composted as well as the appropriate mix of materials.

To register, email Andrea Campisi of the Township’s Building and Planning Department at acampisi@lowermerion.org or call 610-645-6112. The township asks that those registering also indicate whether they will be purchasing a rain barrel, compost bin or both.
