After a transition week for renovations, GIANT opened early Sunday morning in the former Genuardi's space in Wynnewood.

Aside from a Starbucks and pharmacy, the supermarket also has a kosher section that boasts more than a thousand new items in the meat, deli, seafood and bakery departments, according to a Giant press release. Community Kashrus of Greater Philadelphia oversees the kosher section.

Even before 8 a.m., a line of people were ready and waiting for the grand opening. Several hundred folks received small prizes: reusable shopping bags, bread and English muffins.

Giant is the third largest private sector employer in Pennsylvania, with over 26,000 full and part-time employees.

It is located in Wynnewood Shopping Center and will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day. According to a sign outside the Wynnewood store, Giant is currently hiring.

ShopRite is cheaper. Wait for Superfresh to close and ShopRite to takeover. Local American owned, unlike giant owned by foreigners who hate Israel.

As with Genuardis/Wynnewood, little attention paid to customer's complaints. At the Starbucks entrance, there should ALWAYS be as many handbaskets as at the other entrance, especially since this is the deli area as is used as often as the produce area. Today I mentioned it to Customer Service; spent 30 minutes shopping and on leaving the store, there still were no baskets. The Acme/Bryn Mawr looks better all the time - at least they are customer oriented!!
