Deadline to Register New Security Systems is Dec. 20

A Lower Merion Township news release has more information.

The Township of Lower Merion has sent notification letters reminding residents of the requirement to register residential and commercial security alarm systems. 2011 registration forms are due by December 20, 2010; the fee for residential registration is $58 and the fee for commercial properties is $91.

As provided by Section No. 3560, Chapter 51-15 of the Township code, any unregistered security alarm owner who has a false alarm activation will be subject to a $300 fine. "Failure to pay any outstanding false activation fees by Dec. 20 is a summary offense," said Michael J. McGrath, Superintendent of Police. "Violators will be subject to prosecution consistent with the provisions of this law."

Owners who register their security alarms are not charged for the first three false activations in a given year. The fourth and subsequent false activations will result in a fee of $50, which will increase incrementally by $50 for each subsequent occurrence.
