Armed Burglars Detain Couple at Merion Home

Three or four masked, armed men forced a Merion couple into their basement as their three children slept early Sunday morning, Lower Merion police reported Monday afternoon.

While her children slept, a woman was confronted in her home by three or four masked armed men at about 2 a.m. May 1, Lower Merion police reported Monday afternoon.

The resident of the 400 block of Levering Mill Road in Merion was then restrained and placed in the basement by the men, according to a township Police Department press release.

When the woman’s husband returned home about 30 minutes later, he was confronted by the same three or four men in the driveway, restrained and placed in the basement, according to the release.

The release states the male homeowner was physically injured while the men asked him about money and jewelry.

The man was able to free himself and his wife at 3:30 a.m., and they contacted police and fled the residence, according to the press release.

“Three small children were inside the residence at the time,” the release reads. “All the children were asleep and later woken and removed by the Police Department’s Emergency Response Team.”

None of the masked armed men were found, and the male resident was taken to Lankenau Hospital and treated for minor injuries, according to the press release.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Detective Unit, and the names of the victims are being withheld, the release states.
