Lower Merion Public Works Building, c. 1930s

On Monday, we asked readers to identify the location and time period of a photo taken somewhere in Ardmore.

Although the two guesses we received both conjectured that the photo was of the Autocar Factory, the photo was actually taken at the Lower Merion Public Works building, located at the corner of County Line Rd. and Lippincott Ave. in Ardmore.

The Autocar Factory guess wasn't too far off, though: the dump truck pictured is a 1930s Autocar model, according to a comment on the Lower Merion Historical Society website.

The Public Works building was erected in 1935, according to a building plaque; it has been used for the storage of Public Works equipment and vehicles for more than 75 years.

Check back Monday for a new historical photo challenge.
