12 Days of Christmas: Spiced Drink Mix

For the twelve days leading up to Christmas, Patch brings you a new holiday treat recipe and ideas for gift giving.

For something a little different from the baked goods often gifted at this time of year, consider giving an easy-to-make spiced drink mix. The mix contains brown sugar and a bunch of wintry spices (which you can adapt to what's on hand). Stir a tablespoon or so of the mix into a cup of tea, cider, cocoa etc. to make it more festive and warm!

I packaged the mix in 1-cup mason jars. Cut a square piece of fabric or paper that's about two inches larger in length and width than the jar top. Screw the lid on, place fabric over top, and secure with ribbon or twine. Add a gift label with instructions for the mix, if desired.

Spiced Drink Mix (via The Yummy Life)
Makes 6 cups of mix

2 lb. bag (4-1/2 cups) dark brown sugar
2.5 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon ground ginger
1 tablespoon ground allspice
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground mace
1 teaspoon ground cloves

Whisk spices together in large bowl, then add brown sugar and whisk until thoroughly combined. (Or, pulse in food processor until combined.)

Add about one tablespoon of mix to eight ounces of liquid, and steep 5 minutes.

For multiple servings, maintain the same ratio of mix to drink. Therefore, 1/4 cup of mix for 1 quart of liquid, etc.

Check back tomorrow for caramel corn with chocolate and nuts (a homemade Moose Munch).
