Also reported in this week's blotter: a burglary in Ardmore.

Lower Merion police relayed the following incidents to news media at a briefing on Monday afternoon. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, they do not indicate guilt or a conviction.

Theft from vehicle: At 11:45 a.m. Oct. 29, the owner of a black 2004 Chevrolet Suburban told police a purse with $200 and credit cards had been stolen overnight from the 200 block of Delmont Avenue in Ardmore. It was unknown how entry was gained; the owner said all doors had been locked, and all windows were found intact.

Burglary: Residents of the 200 block of Ardmore Avenue reported about 9:10 p.m. Oct. 30 that a $550 Apple iPad had been stolen sometime Oct. 26. There was no sign of force to the residence.

Theft from building: Five pieces of copper downspout were stolen from the Perelman Jewish Day School on Haverford Road in Green Hill Farms, police said. The thefts were reported Nov. 1. No value was known, but the lengths were five feet, six feet, eight feet and two 10-foot pieces.

Theft: A purse stolen from Fellini's Restaurant about 6:30 p.m. Nov. 1 was found a little more than two hours later in the township building's parking lot, with $60 to $80 in cash missing from it, police said.

Theft from car: All four tires and rims were stolen from a Hyundai Tiburon parked at the Wynnewood train station Nov. 2. The total value was estimated at $3,350.

Theft: Three people stole 64 garments from Old Navy in Wynnewood about 6:35 p.m. Nov. 3, police said. A store manager watched surveillance video Nov. 4 and saw 33 red blazers, costing $34 apiece, and 31 dresses, costing $25 apiece, being stuffed into white Bed Bath & Beyond bags by three people who then left the store. The people were all described as black and in their 20s: a woman of medium build with a black head scarf, black vest, denim skirt and boots, a heavyset woman with a beige scarf, black jacket and pants, and gold shoes, and a man of medium build with a black knit hat, black coat, blue jeans and white sneakers.

Old Navy is repeatedly being robbed. Why don't they have a check out system like at Costco: you have to show your receipt and it is compared to the items you possess. That and a security guard should deter this type of activity in the future. Guess Old Navy doesn't want to pass on the cost of these additions to its consumers.

I think using inventory control tags and a scanner by the doors would be more effective. The legality of receipt-checking is murky at best and has been fought in court around the country, best not to introduce it to yet another store around here.

and residents are worried about a gym being open 24/7... because that would increase crime. ugh...
